Hong Kong bourse tapered off on the futures settlement day, as the HSI opened 44 points lower. With deeper downswing, it sagged 290 points once to 19,312. At midday close, it slid 259 points, or 1.3%, to 19,344; the HSCEI dropped 106 points, or 1.5%, to 6,921; and the HSTECH sank 55 points, or 1.3%, to 4,318. The half-day turnover totaled $63.817 billion.

As for techs, TENCENT (00700.HK), XIAOMI-W (01810.HK), JD-SW (09618.HK) and KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) dipped 0.4%-0.7%. BABA-W (09988.HK), MEITUAN-W (03690.HK), BIDU-SW (09888.HK), NTES-S (09999.HK) and BILIBILI-W (09626.HK) fell off 2.2%-2.5%.

As for automakers, Chairman Li Shufu increased his stake in GEELY AUTO (00175.HK) for two straight days involving over $300 million. GEELY AUTO bucked the local market trend and soared 3%. NIO-SW (09866.HK) and BYD COMPANY (01211.HK) slipped 3.3% and 3.6%. Auto dealer ZHONGSHENG HLDG (00881.HK) cratered 4%.

Chinese consumer staples subsided broadly, with CR BEVERAGE (02460.HK), TINGYI (00322.HK), LI NING (02331.HK), HISENSE HA (00921.HK), MIDEA GROUP (00300.HK), MNSO (09896.HK) and CHINA RES BEER (00291.HK) sliding 3.1-4.1%. ANTA SPORTS (02020.HK) tumbled 5.2% after the company had earlier said it intends to buy back EUR1 billion convertible bonds and issue EUR1.5 billion convertible bonds.
